Ragusa |
||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Ragusa is the capital of the province bearing the same name and is situated on the southern part of the Iblei Mountains.
Rising on a hill at 380 meters altitude, it is rich with medieval evidences and elegant baroque buildings. The town was founded by the Siculians, who left the testimony of their passing in the funeral niches dug in many zones.
|
Some of the graves, having a complete funerary trousseau, were perfectly rebuilt inside the Archaeological Museum of the town. A few centuries later it suffered the invasion of the Greeks, from who, little by little, assimilated the art, the customs and the traditions. The town was denominated "Hybla Heraia".
Today
Ragusa is a vital center, which offers to its inhabitants and to the
tourists many opportunities of amusement and often cultural initiatives of
high level.
